about DISCOVERY

COUNSELING CENTER

Discovery Counseling Center is a 501 © (3) nonprofit faith-based organization. Although DCC is of Christian faith, staff provides service to those in the community with dignity and respect regardless of religious background or affiliation.

Discovery Counseling Center initially began in 2002 as South Valley Christian Therapy Association, Inc, serving the community with individual, couples, and family counseling, as well as a training site for graduate therapists.

In 2008, Larry McElvain was made president.  The decision was made to amend the name to Discovery Counseling Center.

This was in line with a changing vision to reach beyond counseling within the center and have a greater involvement and partnership with the community.

In 2010, Discovery began partnering with local community and housing centers, and school districts to provide evidence-based life skills programs and after-school support to underserved families.  This mission has grown to include partnerships with the Morgan Hill and Gilroy School Districts, Gavilan College, EAH Housing, Eden Housing (South County Housing), the City of Morgan Hill, and the City of Gilroy.

In 2019. Discovery weathered the passing of our dear visionary Larry McElvain and stayed open during the struggles of COVID, under the leadership of Autry Jamison, who served as Director until 2022.

Today, under our current director, Rochelle Fong-Salazar, we are blessed and privileged to continue the legacy of community service that Larry began.   For 24 years, Discovery has remained a training site for developing therapists and faithfully provided counseling services to families in Morgan Hill and throughout the Bay Area. It is our goal to enhance and expand these services to the community. It is also our goal to continue forming alliances with community partners and various community organizations.
