Welcome to Discovery! The fact that you are here, seeking help for the challenging situation in which you find yourself, means you have already taken the first step toward something new and different. This is no small feat. It is my hope that we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship and help you discover a path forward.

Perhaps a good way to explain how counseling works is to explain how it doesn’t work. As your therapist, I’m not here to analyze you, figure you out, or judge you. It isn’t for me to say what’s best for you, because you are the best judge of that. You know yourself better than anyone. Sometimes, we just need someone to help us get there.

My task is to create a comfortable space in which you feel safe to share what’s happening in your life. As we explore together what you are experiencing, we can work toward a deeper or even a whole new understanding of yourself. Through this process, we can uncover ways to work through your present challenges and start to move forward in the direction you want to go.

Therapy has the potential to have a life-changing impact, and it’s crucial to be aware of the risks as well as the benefits. You may face strong emotions, both positive and negative, as we sort through your experiences. There may be emotional discomfort that could disrupt everyday life. However, learning to manage through these challenging moments can help you develop valuable coping skills to benefit you going forward.

Therapy is collaborative. To get the most out of our time together, it’s essential for you to be actively involved in exploration, setting goals, and sharing feedback about what is or isn’t going well. If at any point you find therapy isn’t working as you had hoped, please share this in session so we can find a better approach together, or potentially, a better-fit therapist for you. While I’m here to provide my experience, my job is not to tell you what to do. Ultimately it will be up to you to bring the changes or solutions we may discover in therapy into your world.
